Project Objectives:

Enable students to demonstrate practical application of site engineering principles, including layout, surveying, and quality control, directly on a simulated construction project.

Develop competencies in interpreting construction drawings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and managing on-site resources efficiently.

Enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills by addressing common field issues such as delays, safety compliance, material shortages, and unexpected site conditions.

Cultivate professional communication abilities through preparation of detailed progress reports, stakeholder updates, and collaboration with contractors and suppliers.

Foster understanding of construction project lifecycle, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting, to align with industry standards and client requirements.

Apply basic civil engineering concepts related to soil testing, concrete mixing, reinforcement placement, and compliance with technical specifications in a practical context.

Equip students with the ability to implement workplace safety practices and regulatory compliances effectively on site.

Train students in the use of field instruments and technologies commonly applied in construction site supervision and quality assurance.

Project Tasks:

Review and interpret a set of provided architectural and structural drawings for a mid-scale infrastructure project (e.g., a commercial building or road segment).

Conduct a virtual or on-site layout exercise by applying surveying techniques (using tools such as total station or GPS) to stake out key structural elements and verify dimensional accuracy.

Develop a detailed daily work plan including resource allocation (labor, materials, and equipment) based on project timelines and constraints.

Monitor construction activities through simulated site inspections; identify deviations from design specifications or safety standards and propose corrective actions.

Prepare a comprehensive field report documenting progress, challenges faced, quality checks conducted, and recommendations for management review.

Simulate coordination meetings with contractors, suppliers, and supervisors; draft minutes highlighting key decisions and action items.

Analyze a hypothetical site incident involving materials or safety; recommend immediate response measures and long-term preventive strategies.

Demonstrate practical knowledge by creating a checklist for quality control testing (e.g., concrete slump test, reinforcement placement verification) and schedule execution.

Use project management software or templates to update project schedules, track milestones, and communicate delays or changes to stakeholders.

Present final findings, challenges encountered, and lessons learned through a professional presentation mimicking on-site progress meetings.
