Project Objectives:

Demonstrate the ability to analyze cloud infrastructure provisioning requirements and design a self-service platform that enables users to request and deploy standardized infrastructure resources efficiently.

Apply cloud computing, infrastructure-as-code, automation, and DevOps principles to streamline the provisioning and management of compute, storage, networking, and other cloud resources.

Exhibit strategic planning and decision-making competencies by designing an infrastructure automation framework aligned with organizational requirements for scalability, reliability, security, cost control, and operational efficiency.

Evaluate infrastructure provisioning performance using key metrics such as deployment time, provisioning success rate, resource utilization, configuration consistency, infrastructure costs, and incident frequency.

Utilize infrastructure-as-code frameworks, cloud management platforms, scripting tools, CI/CD pipelines, or workflow systems to automate infrastructure requests, approvals, deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.

Enhance problem-solving and adaptability by addressing challenges such as failed deployments, configuration errors, resource conflicts, access restrictions, capacity limitations, and changing infrastructure requirements.

Showcase teamwork and collaboration skills by coordinating with cloud engineering, DevOps, security, development, operations, and business teams to establish standardized self-service infrastructure workflows.

Cultivate secure and responsible cloud management practices by incorporating access controls, approval workflows, policy enforcement, resource tagging, monitoring, cost governance, and infrastructure lifecycle controls into the automation platform.

Project Tasks:

Conduct an assessment of a hypothetical organization's cloud infrastructure provisioning process to identify manual activities, approval bottlenecks, configuration inconsistencies, deployment delays, and opportunities for automation.

Develop a detailed architecture for a self-service cloud infrastructure platform that allows authorized users to request standardized resources through a centralized portal, catalog, or automated workflow.

Create infrastructure templates for common cloud resources such as virtual machines, storage, networks, databases, and development environments using infrastructure-as-code or equivalent automation approaches.

Design a self-service request and approval workflow that includes resource selection, configuration parameters, user authorization, policy validation, approval requirements, automated deployment, and notification processes.

Build a mock infrastructure provisioning dashboard using spreadsheets, workflow tools, cloud management platforms, or application prototypes to track requests, deployment status, resource ownership, costs, and operational activity.

Simulate infrastructure deployment scenarios involving successful provisioning, invalid configurations, failed deployments, unauthorized requests, resource limits, and automated rollback or remediation procedures.

Analyze hypothetical platform performance data to evaluate deployment time, automation success rate, resource utilization, user adoption, infrastructure costs, and operational workload reduction.

Compile a final project report that includes the platform architecture, automation workflow, infrastructure templates, governance approach, simulated results, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations for implementing a scalable self-service cloud infrastructure automation platform.
