Project Objectives:

The main goal of this project is to develop a comprehensive business plan and operational model for implementing a mutual funds management system tailored to financial service providers or fintech startups. While the original document targets the development of a software solution, this MBA-oriented approach addresses the business problem from the perspective of regulatory compliance, investor servicing, process design, and digital transformation strategy. Mutual fund operations often involve complex coordination between fund managers, distributors, compliance teams, and investors. Mismanagement or inefficiencies in areas such as record-keeping, communication, or performance tracking can result in customer dissatisfaction and financial risk. Through this project, students will investigate best practices in mutual fund lifecycle management, examine how operations can be structured to meet customer needs and regulatory demands, and design a go-to-market plan for launching or improving mutual fund operations in a non-technical, strategic format.

Project Tasks:

To successfully complete this project, students will undertake several business-focused tasks. These include conducting a market study on mutual fund offerings and their administration models; mapping stakeholder requirements including investors, financial advisors, and compliance teams; and evaluating regulatory frameworks such as SEBI regulations in India or equivalent global policies. Students will also prepare a detailed workflow for mutual fund registration, KYC (Know Your Customer) onboarding, NAV reporting, investor communication, and fund performance monitoring. Risk analysis and mitigation strategies related to data integrity, transparency, and investor trust will be assessed. Additional responsibilities include drafting policies for fund update notifications, formulating client servicing protocols, and developing reporting formats. Students will also deliver a cost-benefit analysis, strategic implementation timeline, and final presentation summarizing the proposed framework. While the technical solution is excluded, the business framework will be detailed and tailored for implementation alongside software development teams.
