The main aim of this project is to analyze the evolving role of digital transformation in enabling Indian SMEs to enhance their operational efficiency, responsiveness, and decision-making agility. The research seeks to explore how effective IT governance models and alignment of IT with business strategies contribute to organizational performance. Furthermore, it investigates how cloud-based solutions have become a critical enabler of business continuity and innovation post-COVID-19. By the end of the study, students are expected to provide strategic recommendations for SMEs to harness digital tools for sustainable growth, agility, and resilience.
Students undertaking this project will begin by reviewing academic literature on digital transformation, IT governance, and SME technology adoption. They will develop a research framework to evaluate the current state of digital readiness among SMEs. Primary research activities will include designing and distributing surveys or conducting interviews with SME stakeholders to assess the use of IT in strategic decision-making, operational workflows, and cloud adoption.
Further tasks include analyzing collected data using qualitative or quantitative research methods, identifying best practices in aligning IT with business objectives, and examining the effectiveness of various IT governance frameworks. Students will also investigate how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated cloud computing adoption and digital transformation in India. The final phase involves compiling findings, writing the research report, preparing actionable insights, and presenting strategic recommendations for improving SME digital maturity and governance.
